Why you can trust this article with the best sports bars in Canggu

Hi, I’m Victoria, and I’m your go-to source for Bali and Indonesia travel information.

I’ve lived on this beautiful island for several years now and visited plenty of times before that, both as a tourist and backpacker. I know how to save money and when to splurge on things, so I’ll introduce you to the best luxury getaways for a special occasion but also the cheapest airport pickups and fun group tours you can join if you want to make friends.

I’ve lived in Canggu for a few years now and got out almost every weekend, so I know the best bars that show live sports very well. As a German, I love to watch football, of course, but also go to see F1 and boxing quite a lot, as well as big events like the super bowl.

Since there aren’t too many sports bars in Canggu, I can tell you exactly which ones are worth going to depending on what you’re looking for. Unlike a tourist who’s only in Bali for a short period of time, I can keep this post up-to-date and will be the first to know if anything changes.

Best sports bars and live sports in Canggu

If you’re looking for a place to watch the game, see F1 races, rugby, AFL, football, cricket, tennis, UFC, Six Nations, the Olympics, Euros or the World Cup, these sports bars around Canggu are the best choice.

1. Faraway Sports Bar & Grill

Faraway is a typical Australian sports bar, and one of my all-time favourites for live sports in Canggu. Located just a few minutes from Echo Beach, Faraway is a fantastic location and is always busy. It has a lot of regulars who’ve been coming here for years and is one of the most beloved bars in the area.

The bar itself is quite small with a very rustic interior that you’ll find in many places around Kuta. There are plenty of TVs, a pool table and a large bar.

It can get quite hot at Faraway, since there is no AC, so keep that in mind. The seating is very basic with wooden chairs and tables, so not the most comfortable.

I used to work right around the corner, so I came to Faraway several times per week for years, so I really came to love this place. The staff is very friendly and while it’s usually quiet during the day, it gets very busy on weekend nights. They often have live music on Fridays and Saturdays and you definitely need to reserve a table to get a spot.

They show all types of sports events, mostly focused on AFL, NRL, UFC, cricket and tennis. Check their Instagram to see their current schedule. If there is a game during the day that you’re hoping to see, they’ll usually put it on for you if you ask.

Just be aware that you can’t get a grab or gojek in this part of Canggu you can see the exact pickup points here.

2. Knockout Bar

Knockout is a smaller sports bar in Pererenan and probably the least known and quietest bar on this list. It’s quite basic but has a nice size, and the owners are very friendly, having created a loyal community of regulars here.

Knockout is rarely very busy, so you can usually get a spot last minute. They have a pool table and very good happy hours with affordable beers and cocktails. Come here for pool tournaments and all the best live sports events.

The food here is also highly recommended, and they have a teppanyaki grill, so you’ll get to enjoy fantastic meats and seafood dishes while you watch the game. The seating is wooden chairs and benches, so not the most comfortable, but other than that, I love this bar and highly recommend it-

They show a lot of UFC and boxing at Knockout Bar, but really any type of sports event, including football and rugby.

3. Plumber’s Arms

Pumber’s Arms is the closest thing you’ll find to an English pub in Bali. Although it’s not technically located in Canggu, but on the outskirts of Kerobokan and Umalas, Plumber’s Arms is one of my most recommended sports bars in the area. You can there in only around 10 minutes from Batu Bolong if there is no traffic, so there’s no excuse not to go.

Plumber’s Arms is very rustic and has a steady crowd of regulars, most of which are from the UK. Their Sunday Roast is very good, and so is their beer selection. I’d highly recommend trying their Snakebite, which is half beer and half cider. It’s very good.

I also appreciate that their beers are always freezing cold, which is a necessity in Bali’s heat.

There is a pool table, plenty of big TVs and even an attached bottle shop, so you’ll have everything you need. The pub also has a covered beer garden area, and it’s actually quite big, so you’ll be more likely to get a table.

They show a lot of football but also plenty of other sports events like AFL, MRL, F1 or UFC.

4. Legends Bistro

Legends Bistro (formerly Jalan Legends) is located on the edge of Berawa at Tamora Square, not too far from Playroom. This is a more modern sports bar that feels more elevated than some of the other more pub-style options on this list.

They run pool championships, have great happy hours, live music and even kizomba and bachata nights. Legends Bistro is a bar first and a sports bar second, and a lot of people come here for pre-drinks or just to play pool.

They show quite a bit of AFL, UFC and football and have both indoor and outdoor seating. There are cushioned benches and chairs, so it’s slightly more comfortable than the more rustic sports bars around Canggu.

Definitely reserve a table if you’re hoping to watch a popular game.

5. The Bench

The Bench is one of the most popular sports bars in central Canggu, and it’s located just a few minutes from the beach on Batu Bolong Street. With their backyard expansion, there is now plenty of space to watch sports, although The Bench is almost always crowded.

Definitely pre-book your tables and keep in mind that there is sometimes minimum spend for big events and large groups and that splitting bills can be a challenge here.

Especially the World Cup, Euros or Super Bowl are super crowded here and they go as far as putting up barriers outside, so you can’t watch the game from the street. There is a line out the door during those events and finding anywhere to sit or stand is next to impossible.

On normal days, it’s much more chill, though, but The Bench still gets quite a few people who just come here for drinks and not to watch sports. They have decent happy hours, and we often come here for Bloody Marys on Sunday mornings.

If you want to watch the game in a lively place with plenty of people, The Bench is the place to go.

They also have a large brewery and sports bar in Uluwatu, which I personally like even more as a venue.

6. Playroom

Playroom is one of the newer additions to Canggu’s sports bar scene, and is located at the end of Berawa, very close to Legends Bistro. They’re the only sports bar on this list that is always open 24/7 and also have an attached nightclub that is also called Playroom.

They claim to have the biggest screen in Bali (which is not true, but that’s okay), but you need to be aware that it’s just several TVs attached to each other, not a single screen, so you’ll have the black lines across the image.

We went here quite a few times now during the World Cup, and I appreciated their comfortable lounges, which are probably the nicest on this list. It’s definitely a more up-scale sports bar and not very rustic.

They have board games, a pool table, dart, and a claw machine, so plenty to keep you entertained during your night out. Their AC is super strong, and it’s the only bar and this list where you can watch live sports without sweating.

There are a lot of happy hours and food offers going on throughout the week and they also have beer towers, which is much appreciated.

I did notice that the nightclub, which is upstairs, can be quite loud late in the evening, and you can clearly hear the base and feel the vibrations, which was a bit annoying.

Playroom was pretty quiet the times I’ve been there, except for the World Cup final, so if you’re looking for a last-minute spot, you’ll probably still be able to snag one of their lounges. The food and drinks are pretty good, so I’d definitely recommend it.

7. The Barn

The Barn is located just off Batu Bolong, with a very central location. It’s an upscale English pub and feels like a tropical Wetherspoons. It’s definitely the prettiest sports bar in Canggu and a great place for day drinking.

What I love most about The Barn is that they have a shuffleboard table, which is incredibly addictive. They also have a pool table in a separate airconditioned room, but the rest of the bar is open, so it can get a bit hot.

They have very comfortable lounges, live music in the evenings and offer Sunday Roast, which is highly recommended. Just make sure to reserve; they do run out. On days other than Sunday, The Barn is rarely very busy.

They don’t have a crazy amount of TVs, but it’s enough to watch the game, especially if you’re sitting close to the bar. The Barn also has one of the best happy hours in Canggu, and very affordable drinks, which we love. The Barn is more of a pub than a proper sports bar, but they put on a lot of games, so still a recommended spot.
