About Me
Hi, I'm Victoria
You can’t get paid to travel the world, right?
That’s what I told myself for years and years, always ignoring my desire to work in a more creative field. After spending four years at university in Scotland I was sure I needed to at least give it a shot.
Fast forward a few years and I’m now a full-time writer and photographer spending my time either in Bali or travelling around South East Asia and Central America.
I’m glad I didn’t give up on my dream.
Frequently asked questions
How did you start blogging?
In 2016 I answered a Facebook ad and started writing for a small travel blog while I was travelling through Australia. At the time it was more for fun and I never considered that I’d be blogging and travelling full time at some point. I was publishing one article per week all while travelling without a laptop or even an internet connection. I mostly wrote in public libraries and at times even on my phone until I eventually decided it was time to start my own blog.
I gradually began building my portfolio and diversifying the content I was creating. In 2018 I finally launched my first blog which was called Compass to Happiness and later became Guide your Travel. About a year later I decided to re-brand completely and focus on blogging full-time. Guide your Travel has come a long way and is the result of years of work behind the scenes.
What camera do you use?
I’ve used a lot of different cameras over the years so this is always a tricky question to answer. At the moment I mostly shoot with a Nikon Z50 although that’s not the only camera I carry with me when I travel. I love the Olympus Mju Zoom for film photography and the DJI Air 2S for drone shots.
I’m thinking of becoming a blogger, where do I start?
Blogging is a lot of work and getting started can seem really overwhelming. Firstly, I’d consider what type of blog you want to start so you’ll have a better idea of what you’re going to be needing. Next, you should consider your finances and if you’re okay with making an initial investment into your blog.
I still highly recommend starting a blog or at least trying it out if you’re not sure if it’s going to be for you. It’s a trial an error process so doesn’t let yourself be discouraged if things don’t work out immediately. For me it was the best decision I ever made and I’m so glad I went for it.
What’s your favourite place you’ve been to?
I’m fortunate enough to have been able to see a lot of incredible places around the world so it’s very difficult to pick a favourite. I’d say I’m happiest somewhere close to the water in a warm climate. Southern Spain will forever feel like home to me and is probably my number one favourite place to be. A close second would have to be Bali in Indonesia of course.
Is Guide your Travel your only blog?
I actually work on a number of websites at the same time, including my Australia camping blog which is called My Australia Trip.
