Hi, I'm Victoria
I’m 24 years old and grew up in Germany. Right now I’m studying at a university in Scotland and am about to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.
Full-time travel is my dream and I’ve spent the last few years slowly building my online business. Guide your Travel is technically a travel blog, but I also write about photography, social media and how you can start blogging. Don’t forget to check out my destination guides and travel tips.
Frequently Asked Questions
How did you start blogging?
In 2016 I answered a Facebook ad and started writing for a small travel blog while I was travelling through Australia. At the time it was more for fun and I never considered that I’d be blogging and travelling full time at some point. I was publishing one article per week all while travelling without a laptop or even an internet connection. I mostly wrote in public libraries and at times even on my phone until I eventually decided it was time to start my own blog.
I gradually began building my portfolio and diversifying the content I was creating. In 2018 I finally launched my blog as you see it today although it was called Compass to Happiness at the time. About a year later I decided to re-brand completely and focus on blogging full-time. Guide your Travel has come a long way and is the result of more than 5 years of work behind the scenes.
What camera do you use?
I’ve used a lot of different cameras over the years so this is always a tricky question to answer. At the moment I mostly shoot with a Nikon Z50 although that’s not the only camera I carry with me when I travel. Check out my what’s in my camera bag post for more details on how I take photos.
I’m thinking of becoming a blogger, where do I start?
Blogging is a lot of work and getting started can seem really overwhelming. Firstly, I’d consider what type of blog you want to start so you’ll have a better idea of what you’re going to be needing. Next, you should consider your finances and if you’re okay with making an initial investment into your blog.
I still highly recommend starting a blog or at least trying it out if you’re not sure if it’s going to be for you. It’s a trial an error process so doesn’t let yourself be discouraged if things don’t work out immediately. For me it was the best decision I ever made and I’m so glad I went for it.
What’s your favourite place you’ve been to?
I’m fortunate enough to have been able to see a lot of incredible places around the world so it’s very difficult to pick a favourite. I’d say I’m happiest somewhere close to the water in a warm climate. Southern Spain will forever feel like home to me and is probably my number one favourite place to be. A close second would have to be Bali in Indonesia of course.
