Hi, I'm Victoria

I’m 24 years old and grew up in Germany. Right now I’m studying at a university in Scotland and am about to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

My favourite things to do in the city:

🇪🇸 Nights out in Huertas - incredible nightlife any day of the week

🇪🇸 Temple of Debod - Egyptian Temple that was transported all the way from Egypt

🇪🇸 Chamberi Ghost Station - Abandoned railway station used as a movie set

🇪🇸 Mercado de San Ildefonso - Delicious food and DJ on the weekends

🇪🇸 Prado - One of the world‘s most famous art museums and free for students

Is Instagram really dying?

I’ve spent more than 10 years on Instagram and unfortunately the platform seems to be on its way out. Or at least, it’s not nearly as active as it used to be.

Instagram used to be my go-to app and I’d spend hours on here every single day just scrolling mindlessly. You can probably guess which app has since taken its place.

Reels are fun and all but so far I can’t see a scenario where Instagram does better at video content than TikTok. Still, the problem doesn’t seem to lie with Instagram but more photo-content itself. Videos are so much easier to enjoy and while photography is great, it’s difficult to recreate the same entertainment levels with just images.

Anyway, I’m not trying to say that I’m leaving Instagram. I’ll be on this sinking ship until the end haha. I just wanted to let you know that I haven’t disappeared and I’ll hopefully be a lot more active now after my little social media break.

What’s your opinion? Do you use Instagram for fun and don’t mind that people seem to be leaving? Or do you find yourself posting and engaging less than you used to?

Having a clean and tidy Instagram account will do wonders for your engagement and reach. Leaving a good first impression with people who visit your account is really important to make sure you retain followers and build an active community.

Here are three things you can do today to clean up your Instagram account

🌀 Sort through the people you’re following.
Following too many people will mean that you won’t be able to engage with everyone’s posts and might make you miss out on great content. Only follow accounts you truly care about and want to support

🌀 Remove inactive followers.
More followers isn’t always better. If you’re trying to get your reach and engagement up you might have to remove some followers which aren’t engaging with your content. Your account will look a lot more professional

🌀 Check the Instagram algorithm.
Instagram actually shows you which accounts are most and least shown in your feed. Go to “following” to get an insight into your own algorithm and make adjustments if necessary.

Photography is all about the editing and even though it takes a lot of skill to take incredible photos, a large portion of the process will actually take place at your laptop.

Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are the undisputed elite of the photo editing software world. Every single professional photographer out there uses them. But do you really need both?

In my opinion you definitely do. Photoshop and Lightroom actually do very different things. Lightroom is mainly used for changing colours, light and making cosmetic changes to your photos. Photoshop is a lot more sophisticated and can be used to really alter your images which Lightroom just can’t do.

Lightroom is more beginner friendly while Photoshop takes a lot longer to master.

I use both interchangeably and while I’m by no means a Photoshop expert I’ve learned how to do basic things using the program over the years. I mainly use it to remove unwanted things from my photos like in this example.

Then I edit my photos in Lightroom either from scratch or using my own presets.

If you’re like me independence is really important to you when it comes to finding a career. I never saw myself working in a traditional office from 9 to 5 every day. Although I’m just getting started as a digital nomad I can already tell this lifestyle has a huge amount of potential for me.

Getting started can seem overwhelming so here are six easy ways you can work online. Almost anyone can work in these fields although it might take some time to build your business and make it profitable. The investment is worth it though!

🌞Freelance Writer
Getting started with writing is actually super easy. It might take some time to build your portfolio but if you enjoy writing definitely give it a go.

🌞Virtual Assistant
You can be a virtual assistant in all sorts of fields and there are tons of courses online teaching you how to become one.

🌞Consultant
If you have a degree in a specific field you could become an online consultant to larger companies. This is a really flexible job and a great way to work remotely.

🌞Blogger
It definitely takes time until you can make a sustainable income with your blog but it’s worth it. This is also a great side-project to have while you also work in another field.

🌞Graphic or Web Designer
You definitely need some prior knowledge for both of these jobs but again there are courses available online if you’re willing to commit to this idea.

🌞English teacher
There is always a demand for remote English teachers. Invest in a TOEFL certificate and get started!

🌟HOW TO BALANCE ONLINE WORK WITH A FULL-TIME JOB/SCHOOL🌟

I’ve been working online as a blogger and freelance writer for a few years now. While it used to only be a few hours of work per week the last year my business really took off and sometimes I’m having a hard time finding time to work while I’m still at university.

I’ll be graduating in a few months so there isn’t much time left but now as I’m SUPER busy with my dissertation I sometimes get incredibly overwhelmed with my workload.

Here are my top tips for finding balance:

⏳Divide your time equally. Even if one project is more fun you can’t neglect the other.

⏳Get the boring stuff done first. Every morning I feel tempted to get started with the things I really enjoy like writing but I usually force myself to work on my dissertation first for a few hours.

⏳Take some time off if you can. Recently it all got a bit too much and I noticed that even working 14-hour days I couldn’t stay on track with both writing and uni. So I decided to take a full month off from my freelance work (or at least most of it) to focus fully on my dissertation. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made since I can now finally get one thing out of the way without constantly being distracted.

⏳Prioritise what you’ll be doing. I can concentrate best in the early mornings so that’s when I do the most important things. You can never get everything done so focus on the important stuff first.

⏳Find time for something else. It might be hard to schedule in fun activities when you already don’t have enough time to balance work and school. However, no one can just work all day and never enjoy themselves. Even if it’s just an hour I always try to find time to relax and unwind.

🌟 TOP TIPS FOR VISITING ROTTNEST ISLAND 🌟

If you’re in Perth you absolutely HAVE to visit Rottnest Island. It’s home to some of Australia’s best beaches and of course the largest population of quokkas in the world. These cute little animals are the subject of many photos and really friendly towards humans.

Here are my top tips for visiting Rottnest Island

1 - Rent a bike 🚴🏻‍♀️
The best way to see the island is to rent a bike for the day. This will give you a lot more freedom than walking or taking the bus.

2 - Don’t worry about the return ferry 🚢
You might not know how much time you’re going to be spending on Rottnest. Luckily the return ferries are flexible and you can usually hop on an earlier or later one free of charge

3 - Quokkas can be hard to find 🦫
If you want to capture that perfect quokka selfie you might have to be patient. Quokkas aren’t always easy to find but once you’ve spotted the first one you’ll see them absolutely everywhere

4 - Stay overnight on Rottnest Island ⛺️
Australia is expensive and hotels on Rottnest Island will usually cost well over 150$ per night. However, camping is actually quote affordable if you bring your own gear. This is the perfect way to experience Rottnest on a budget

5 - See the sand dunes 🏝
Rottnest Island is all about incredible beaches but most people miss out on the impressive sand dunes. Go to Salmon Bay and head to the dunes for some incredible photo spots

MY GEAR AS A TRAVEL BLOGGER

When taking photos during your travels goes beyond just being for fun you suddenly start accumulating A LOT of electronics and gear that you now have to carry with you everywhere you go.

As much as I try to reduce my gear I always seem to have at least one backpack full of just electronics. Here are seven things I always carry with me on every trip.

💡 1. Camera
This one might be obvious but I remember trips where I used to just carry my phone and now my camera never leaves my side. I use a Nikon Z50 at the moment

💡2. Gopro
This is an absolute necessity especially for underwater shots and videos but also taking photos in places where I wouldn’t necessarily want to take my full camera

💡3. Drone
We recently sold the drone and are now waiting for the perfect deal to get a newer and better one. Even though I’m terrified of flying it, the drone shots are always my favourites

💡4. Laptop
As a writer I can’t go anywhere without my laptop. It might be annoying to carry but I use it every single day

💡5. Tripod
We recently got a new tripod and it’s so much better than the last one. It can extend up to 180 cm in height which was really important to me because all my tripod photos were always way too low to the ground

💡6. Camera flash
I was always frustrated with having bad lighting in places so I invested in a good external flash. Now I get to control how my photos look and it’s a complete game changer

💡7. Polariser
This little lens filter might just be the most important piece of gear in my bag. Let me know in the comments if you use one!
