Why you can trust this article on the best nightclubs in Canggu

Hi, I’m Victoria, and I’m your go-to source for Bali and Indonesia travel information.

I’ve lived on this beautiful island for several years now and visited plenty of times before that, both as a tourist and backpacker. I know how to save money and when to splurge on things, so I’ll introduce you to the best luxury getaways for a special occasion but also the cheapest airport pickups and fun group tours you can join if you want to make friends.

I love a good night out, and after years in Canggu, I’ve been to every popular bar or club you can find in the area. Since I’m out most weekends, I’ll be the first to know if a new place opens or another one closes.

Best nightclubs in Canggu

Here is a complete list of the best nightclubs in Canggu. Just note that not every place is open every day of the week, and since Canggu is popular among tourists, you can go out most days of the week and not just on weekends.

Canggu may not eb everyone’s favourite, but it’s definitely worth visiting for the nightlife.

1. Old Man’s

Old Man’s was one of Canggu’s first places to party, and remains one of the few clubs that is packed almost every single night. After Bali reopened post-covid, Old Man’s remodelled their entire venue and expanded, so it’s now also one of the largest clubs in the area.

Located right at Batu Bolong Beach, this is a great spot to come if you’re not quite sure where you want to go yet since Mexicola and Sand Bar are right next door.

Old Man’s is open all day, starting from breakfast time, and during the day, it’s a laidback bar before it turns into a packed club after approximately 10 PM. They have a fantastic happy hour and all sorts of events throughout the night, including a notorious beer pong tournament.

The music at Old Man’s is usually pop and singalong, although they occasionally have well-known electronic DJs performing. Entrance to Old Man’s is always free unless there is a special event with a lineup.

Note that due to noise regulations, the club closes at 1 AM (exceptions for special events), after which everyone goes to Sand Bar, which is allowed to stay open late.

2. Sand Bar

Sand Bar is one of the few places in Canggu that is open late and the only nightclub where you can party and dance on the beach. During the day, it’s a small beach warung with a terrace and bean bags, but at night, it turns into one of Canggu’s biggest parties.

The most popular Sand Bar nights are Friday, Saturday and Monday, and you can usually dance here until sunrise. The music is mostly singalong and pop, and on Saturdays, there is a live band before the DJ starts.

Sand Bar used to be free to visit, but recently began charging a IDR 100,000 entrance fee per person, which includes one drink. It’s usually the last stop for most partygoers, so it doesn’t get packed until after 1 AM when Mexicola and Old Mans, which are next door, close.

Sand Bar is also famous for their tattoo stall, where you can get a tattoo late at night, right at the beach. No good decisions were ever made at Sand Bar, but everyone partying in Canggu should come here at least once.

3. Miss Fish

Miss Fish is a Japanese Omakase restaurant located in the Berawa area of Canggu. In the evenings, this upscale venue turns into a nightclub, and it’s one of the few places in Canggu that is open late.

The main room has a DJ, and it’s not super large, so Miss Fish gets packed very quickly. If you arrive late on weekends, the line to get in can get very long, and they start charging an entrance fee of as much as IDR 350,000, depending on the night. Girls can usually get in for free, but in my experience, the prices change quite frequently, depending on when you go and who you’re with.

Miss Fish is usually open until at least 3 AM, occasionally even 4 or later. There is a party most nights of the week, but on weekends it’s busiest of course. The music is electronic, and Miss Fish is one of the best nightclubs in Canggu if you like techno.

4. Vault

Vault is a large underground nightclub located at Tamora Gallery in Berawa, Canggu. They used to be very well-known for their Friday night techno event but have recently begun focusing more on R&B, hip hop and afro beats.

The Vault is one of the few actual nightclubs in Canggu, as most other venues are actually bars or restaurants that host large parties.

Ladies usually get in for free at Vault, depending on the night, and men are asked to pay a cover charge of approximately IDR 150,000, depending on the event. Definitely look into contacting promoters for guest list to avoid paying an entry fee.

Vault is underground, and they allow smoking, so it does get a bit stuffy and cramped inside, unfortunately. Vault stays open as late as 4 AM, depending on the night.

5. Morabito Art Villa

Morabito Art Villa is an ocean-front hotel and beach club that hosts parties every Friday night. The music is usually electronic and techno, and the crowd is young, with a mixture of expats and tourists.

There are more and more popular DJs on the lineup, and ticket prices can get as high as IDR 300,000 per person. Some nights are free, especially before 11 PM, but it really depends on the event.

If you love electronic music, I would definitely recommend coming here on a weekend. The ocean-view backdrop really makes this a great place to dance and party in Canggu.

6. Mexicola

Mexicola is one of Seminyak’s most popular nightlife hotspots, and their new location in Canggu has quickly become just as popular. Located at Batu Bolong Beach right next to Old Man’s and Sand Bar, this restaurant turns into a busy club on most nights.

Mexicola is Mexican-themed, complete with Tex-Mex food, tequila shots, micheladas and more. Come here for dinner or drinks and watch as people begin dancing on the tables and the place slowly transforms into a packed nightclub.

Entrance to Mexicola is free, unless they reach “maximum capacity” in which case they charge IDR 150,000 per person, which includes one drink. This happens quite often on weekends, especially after 10 PM.

Special events also have entrance fees. Definitely reserve a table if you want to sit down for dinner or drinks, and arrive after 10 PM for the party. The music is usually pop and singalong songs.

Note that just like Old Man’s, Mexicola closes at 1 AM, after which you can head to Sand Bar for a late-night party.

7. Luigi’s Hot Pizza

Luigi’s Hot Pizza is an Italian restaurant and not a nightclub, but they host one of Canggu’s most popular parties every Monday. During the day, you can come here for delicious pizza and other Italian dishes, but at night, Luigi’s has a DJ and great electronic music.

The best party takes place on Mondays when Luigi’s is absolutely packed, but Fridays and Saturdays are usually also quite busy.

Luigi’s often hosts the DJ collective PNNY, who are known for their electronic and techno music sets. On Mondays, you definitely need to reserve a table if you want to sit for drinks or dinner, otherwise entrance is free, although Luigi’s occasionally charges an entrance fee for special events.

The party usually goes on until 1 AM, and it gets very packed inside, so prepare for it to be very hot.

The Best Way To Experience Bali

Group tours are an incredibly underrated way to travel and you’ll get to experience Bali with new friends without any of the stress of planning. Compare the best tours here or check out my all-time favourite below.

8. La Brisa

La Brisa is one of Canggu’s most popular beach clubs and is located on Canggu’s Echo Beach. Most of the time, this is a place to come relax by the pool, enjoy the ocean view or watch the sunset with friends. However, once or twice a month, La Brisa hosts large parties, usually under the name of Basement Love, with international DJs and usually a set by the local DJ collective PNNY.

Enjoy electronic and techno music with a big influence from Berlin, and dance the night away under La Brisa’s beautiful palm trees, with ocean views as your backdrop.

The ticket price usually lies between IDR 100,000 and IDR 400,000, depending on when you book.

The party goes on until 2 or 3 AM, depending on the event, and you can even go for a swim in one of La Brisa’s pools late at night.

In my opinion, Basement Love and the other party nights at La Brisa are some of the best in Canggu and are always highly recommended.

9. Playroom

Playroom is a sports bar with an upstairs nightclub located in Berawa. This is one of the newer clubs in Canggu, and it’s quickly gaining popularity. Their music depends on the day of the week and ranges from techno to Afro beats, hip hop and more.

Weekends are definitely the busiest, and the nightclub has a decent light show with huge LED screens.

The bar downstairs, which is open 24/7, shows major sports events, and there are pool tables and darts, so you can hang out here before or after you go dancing.

Entry to Playroom is usually free, depending on the night, and the club stays open until 3 AM on most weekends.

10. Mesa

Mesa is a bar and nightclub with a rooftop located in central Berawa. The club itself isn’t incredibly large, but with the rooftop area, which also has a pool, there is plenty of space to spread out.

Mesa usually attracts a crowd of quite a few backpackers and tourists mixed with locals. The music depends on the day of the week, ranging from pop to hip hop, Afrobeats and house.

Mesa is definitely a late-night spot, and it gets quite crowded after midnight. Saturday is usually the biggest night, and there may be an entry fee for men if you arrive late. Definitely contact a promoter, or make sure to get there early.

Mesa stays open late and has a party most nights of the week, so it’s a good choice if you want to go out on a weekday.

Best bars in Canggu where people are dancing

If you want to go out dancing in Canggu, you shouldn’t only look at nightclubs but also at bars or restaurants with a dance floor, which can have great parties. Here are some bars to consider for a more chill vibe if you’re not feeling up for a full-out clubbing experience.

11. X Bar

X Bar is a popular spot located close to the beach on Batu Bolong Beach in central Canggu. It’s hidden in a side street, so don’t miss it. In front of it, you’ll find Yoga Mart, a little minimart with a bar out front where you can grab drinks and sit at a picnic table. It gets very busy late at night, especially after X Bar closes at around 1 AM.

X Bar is quite large with a garden area, a dance floor and even a pool where you can go for a late night swim. In my experience, it doesn’t get super busy until around 10:30 PM when people start dancing. X Bar can be a bit hit or miss; some nights it’s very crowded, and some it’s quieter.

The music depends on the day of the week, and they often also have a live band. We love their daily happy hour and affordable prices. They even do free-flow drinks for ladies on Thursdays.

Entrance to X Bar is always free, so it’s a great place to come if you’re on a budget.

12. Black Sand Brewery

Black Sand Brewery is located on Batu Bolong Street and is usually a chill place to have beers with friends and enjoy a sunny day in Canggu. On Fridays, they have a DJ, and the atmosphere becomes more party-oriented with people dancing. Black Sand isn’t open super late and usually closes at 1 AM at the latest unless there’s a special event, but it’s a good place to go if you’re looking for party vibes without going to a full-on nightclub.

Black Sand has a great beer selection and good food, so definitely come here during your time in Canggu.

13. Platonic

Platonic is a tiny bar in a central part of Canggu and a cool place to go on a night out if you feel like dancing but don’t want to go anywhere too packed. They have a small dance floor and a DJ on most nights, although they’re closed on Sundays.

Platonic is open until 2 AM and 4 AM on special nights, and entrance is free unless there’s an event.

The music is often hip-hop and occasionally electronic.

14. Batu Bolong beach bar

At the bottom of Batu Bolong Street, right next to Mexicola, there is a small bar and warung that plays electronic music until late at night, similar to Sand Bar.

It’s open to the street, and the place is quite small, so you can always see if there are people dancing.

It usually gets busy after 1 AM but can be a bit hit or miss, depending on the night. It’s a great alternative, though, if you’re not a big fan of the generic music being played at Old Man’s, Mexicola and Sand Bar and want something different.

Clubbing tips for Canggu

If you’re wondering what the nightlife is like in Canggu, these tips will help you on your first night out.

1. Get guestlist tickets

There are a lot of promoters in Bali who can get you on the guest list for most nightclubs in Canggu. That way, you can avoid paying the entrance fees, which can be quite high for places like Miss Fish, Morabito, or Vault.

2. Watch the dress code

You won’t have to worry about a dress code in the backpacker-oriented clubs in Canggu like Old Man’s, Sand Bar, or Mexicola. However, once you venture to Vault, Mesa, Miss Fish, or Play Room, you won’t be allowed to enter in flip-flops, beach wear or tank tops.

3. Keep an eye on the time

Not a lot of places in Canggu stay open past 2 AM, so make sure you have a plan for where to go next if the club you are in closes. Sand Bar is usually open the latest, although Mesa also occasionally has very late nights.

4. Know where grab and gojek won’t work

Grab and gojek are by far the best way to get around Bali and much more reliable than taxis, which often scam tourists late at night. However, there are areas where these apps do not work, especially not after midnight. Check out Canggu’s no-gojek zones before you go to make sure you know where to go.

5. Keep your belongings close

Pickpockets exist in most places with nightlife, and Canggu is no exception. A lot of people have their phones stolen, so keep your valuables close to you to avoid losing something. Some bars also give the wrong change for drinks, so double-check to make sure it’s all correct.
