Why you can trust this article about the best breakfast cafes in Canggu

Hi, I’m Victoria, and I’m your go-to source for Bali and Indonesia travel information.

I know how to save money and when to splurge on things, so I’ll introduce you to the best luxury getaways for a special occasion but also the cheapest airport pickups and fun group tours you can join if you want to make friends.

I’ve lived in Canggu for almost three years now, and since eating out is so affordable and I like to work from cafes rather than at home, I end up eating breakfast at a cafe or restaurant almost every day.

That means I’ve had over 1,000 opportunities to have breakfast in Canggu so far, so I’ve tried pretty much every single one of the hundreds of cafes in Canggu. With so many choices and new options appearing every week, it’s hard to pick a clear favourite, which is why this list is so long.

Best cafes and restaurants to have breakfast in Canggu

With such a fantastic selection of restaurants and cafes, Canggu is probably the best place in Bali to have breakfast or brunch, making it well worth a visit. Here are our absolute favourite places for smoothie bowls, full English breakfast, vegan options, healthy food and much more.

This list is constantly changing and being added to when we come across a new favourite breakfast place in Canggu.

1. Buongiorno

Buongiorno is a small Italian bakery cafe located right in the centre of Canggu. It was thought up by the people behind the famous Sa’Mesa restaurants, and the baked goods here are just as delicious as you remember them from your Italian dinner experience.

Breakfast at Buongiorno is all about juicy sandwiches, hot pies, fresh juices and freshly baked Italian pastries. Their coffee is, of course, excellent, and the food never disappoints.

We love to come to Buongiorno with friends, and you can even order drinks to turn your breakfast into a boozy brunch. With espresso martinis this good, it’s always tempting.

2. Crate Cafe

Crate has been incredibly popular for over 10 years now, and you’ll have to come here for breakfast or brunch at least once during your time in Canggu. All dishes here are IDR 65,000++, so you can try anything and everything without having to spend a lot.

They have everything from pancakes to smoothie bowls, sandwiches, salads and much more. Crate also sells baked goods, and their food is very Instagrammable and portions are generous.

Just keep in mind that this is a very popular breakfast and brunch spot, so it gets very crowded. Be prepared to wait in line for a little bit if you come during prime hours.

3. TMO Coffee Bali

TMO is one of my go-to breakfast places in Canggu and while this cafe is small, I always appreciate the reasonable prices, great service and reliable food quality.

They have a breakfast package for IDR 70,000, which includes a coffee, a small juice and a dish from their special menu. The portions aren’t the largest, but it’s still incredible value for money and never disappoints.

I also regularly come to TMO to get some work done, and it’s great for coworking.

4. Copenhagen

Copenhagen might just be Canggu’s most famous breakfast spot, and there is a line out the door every single day at their original cafe in Padang Linjong.

They’re famous for their customisable breakfasts, where you select different components like bread, toppings, pastries or proteins to build your own breakfast spread. Three pieces cost IDR 69k, so it’s not too expensive.

They also opened a second location in Berawa more recently and a bakery in Pererenan. Head to the Berawa Copenhagen if you don’t want to worry about having to wait in line, or arrive early to get a good seat at the Canggu cafe.

Address: in Canggu Jl. Canggu Padang Linjong No.71a, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 and in Berawa Gg. Anggrek, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

5. Sari Kitchen

Sari Kitchen is located just a few steps from Batu Bolong Beach, and I love to take friends and family here for breakfast. You’ll get a free coffee, juice or tea with every dish, so it’s a fantastic deal.

They have tons of different breakfast dishes like smoothie bowls, eggs benedict or avocado on toast, but you can also get burgers, enchiladas or shakshuka. Their diverse menu makes Sari Kitchen one of the best brunch spots in Canggu, in my opinion. Plus, you can head right down to the beach after you’re done.

Sari Kitchen is also a very sustainable business supporting local non-profits and dedicated to conserving resources, so we love to support them. They are also a great choice if you’re looking for a romantic dinner spot.

6. The Avocado Factory

The Avocado Factory has been around since forever, and now in their new and improved venue they’re even more popular than before. Every dish on their menu includes avocado, and everything I’ve tried here has been absolutely delicious.

Try their avocado pancakes, avocado-topped crossiants, avocado sandwiches and of course avocado on toast. They even have avocado desserts, which are very good.

The quality of everything is very high, and the food combinations are definitely creative. It’s a very aesthetically pleasing restaurant, and it doesn’t get much more “Canggu” than The Avocado Factory.

7. Milk and Madu Beach Road

I always recommend Milk and Madu to families visiting Bali, or larger groups. Their Beach Road restaurant has a very central location and you can walk down to the beach after your breakfast.

They have a playground and a kid’s menu, so it’s a great choice for those travelling with kids of all ages. There is also a Milk and Madu Cafe in Berawa, which has a very similar setup and has slightly fewer tourists versus expats, in my experience.

I always get the muesli at Milk and Madu, which I can’t really find anywhere else in Canggu. They also have great french toast, eggs benedict, ham & cheese croissants and fantastic brunch cocktails if you’re in the mood for a boozy morning.

8. Rise and Shine

Rie and Shine is a small but cozy cafe in Canggu with smoothie bowls, pancakes and all of your favourite breakfast dishes on the menu. I love their fresh pressed juices and I come here all the time to sit with my laptop and grab a snack.

Rise and Shine is located right next to the busy Copenhagen, which has a line out the door almost every day. I find that some of the overflow of people from next door come to Rise and Shine, so it’s usually pretty busy.

They have a coffee happy hour from 2 to 3 PM every day where you can grab a brew for just IDR 20,000. Plus, they do mimosa flights, which we don’t get enough of in Canggu – perfect for a boozy brunch.

9. Shady Shack

Shady Shack is one of the best vegan-friendly places around Canggu, especially for breakfast and brunch. It’s located in a central but quiet street of Canggu, and they have a very nice garden, making it perfect for a sunny morning.

As a vegetarian, I appreciate that they have vegetarian and vegan options, so you can still enjoy eggs and cheese, but your vegan friends won’t have to miss out.

They also have very good smoothie bowls – probably some of the best in all of Canggu.

10. BAKED.

Baked is a very popular chain of bakeries and breakfast places, and they have outlets in both Pererenan and Berawa. The food here is actually incredible and it’s no surprise that so many people are obsessed with Baked.

It’s always quite busy, especially in Berawa, so head to Pererenan if you’re looking for some peace and quiet.

They serve classic breakfast dishes like scrambled egg, granola and bagels, but of course they also have plenty of baked goods to choose from and we always end up taking some bread home.

Address: in Berawa Jl. Raya Semat Gg. Kupu kupu No.1, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 and in Pererenan Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.118, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

11. Satu Satu

Satu Satu has been around for almost ten years and is a favourite among many digital nomads and long-term Bali residents in Canggu. They have their own coffee roastery, so the coffee is obviously delicious.

Their smoothie bowls are very good, and generally, prices are pretty affordable, so it’s a good spot to try on a budget.

You can sit outside on their terrace or inside, which is usually quieter and great to get some work done.

12. Nude

Nude is a brightly-lit and modern breakfast cafe with a popular location in Berawa, and another in Babakan, just a few minutes from central Canggu. They frequently have deals for burgers and pizzas, but their breakfast and brunch are definitely the highlight.

They’ve existed since 2016, so they’re very established in Bali and quite popular. I’d definitely reserve a table if you’re hoping to come to their Berawa restaurant, especially on weekends.

I mostly come here for the fantastic smoothie bowls, which are a breakfast favourite. The sweetcorn fritters are another recommendation, but honestly, most of the dishes on the menu are extremely delicious, and the food quality is great, so you can’t go wrong.

Address: in Berawa Jl. Pantai Berawa No.33, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 and in Babakan Jl. Raya Babakan Canggu No.14, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

13. GigiSusu

Gigi Susu is known for their giant, authentic croissants, and you’ll probably see this cafe recommended on TikTok quite a lot. It’s located on Batu Bolong Street, and their little roadside bakery shop will definitely catch your eye.

You can either grab coffee and pastries to go or sit inside where there is plenty of space. The upstairs is my favourite, and I come here every once in a while to get some work done since it’s central but still quiet enough to be productive.

The food is fantastic, with all the classic breakfast dishes you’re always looking for.

Fun fact: Gigi susu means milk tooth in Indonesian.

14. Ruko Cafe

Ruko is a small cafe located in Berawa, and if you’re looking for a new breakfast spot to try in Canggu, I’d highly recommend it.

I love their latte art and their wraps and sandwiches are exceptional. Generally, the quality of food here is one of the best in the area, so I always recommend Ruko.

They’re quite small and very popular, so finding a seat can be a struggle sometimes, but luckily, the staff is very good at finding you a spot even on busy days. You’ll find a steady crowd of expats here, so definitely try Ruko if you’ve been hoping to escape the regular tourist spots.

15. Mimpi Grocery

Mimpi Grocery is one of my top underrated breakfast recommendations in Canggu and the sort of place you should check out if you’re hoping to get away from the tourists and the crowds. Located at the very back of a small sidestreet of Canggu, this cafe is hard to come across by accident.

It’s a very cool place with ricefield views and even a pool. There is also a little clothing shop attached, and you’ll find mostly Bali residents and expats here.

I love to sit on the upstairs terrace, and I often take friends and family who are visiting here since it’s hard to find a cafe surrounded by ricefields in Canggu.

16. I Am Vegan Babe

If you’re looking for a plant-based breakfast in Canggu, I Am Vegan Babe is one of my top recommendations. This place is very popular and one of the best vegan restaurants in the area.

They have plant-based versions of all the classic breakfast dishes, including eggs benedict, french toast, pancakes and smoothie bowls. I especially like their fake meat options, which is hard to get right in my opinion. They also have a wide selection of vegan pastries and baked goods.

Just note that they ask you only to use your laptop in the specific coworking seats since this is a very popular restaurant and people tend to stay for a while.

I Am Vegan Babe is exactly what you would expect from a cafe in Bali, and if you’ve been looking for a healthy, vegan breakfast, this is a great choice.

17. Milu by Nook

Milu by Nook is a pretty large breakfast place located in a part of Berawa where you’ll find quite a few cafes and restaurants. There is a huge garden area, which overlooks a small ricefield and they usually have plenty of seating. I always recommend Milu by Nook for people looking for large portions and Instagrammable breakfast dishes, and so far the food has always been incredible.

I have to say that the service can sometimes take a while, but in such a large place, that’s no surprise.

Much like Milk and Madu, Milu is a family-friendly restaurant with a small playground, which is why I always recommend it to those with young kids.

That means it can be a bit loud though, and generally, you’ll mostly find groups of tourists here, so keep that in mind.

18. Monsieur Spoon

Located in a busy part of Batu Bolong Street, Monsieur Spoon is a French-influenced breakfast spot with some of the best pastries and croissants in Canggu. They also have a restaurant in Berawa, which is extremely pretty and a great spot to take photos.

The Croger, which is a crossiant burger is absolutely incredible and so are the stuffed crossiants, which I order way too frequently. The food here is generally very good and you can tell that they take their quality very seriously.

I do feel like their new restaurant in Berawa is slightly more touristy and even though it’s not as pretty, I find myself going to the one on Batu Bolong more frequently.

Address: in Canggu Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.55, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 and in Berawa The Luc Bali, Jl. Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80363

19. Brunch Club

Brunch Club is a chain of breakfast and brunch restaurants across Bali, and they have outlets in Berawa and Pererenan. They’re famous for their P*rn Cakes, which is a type of extremely fluffy, jiggly pancake that they specialise in. They’re pretty much liquid on the inside, which isn’t for everyone, but I personally enjoy them and they’re definitely very photogenic.

Brunch Club also serves plenty of other dishes of course, including chciken and waffles, eggs benedict and ham & cheese crossiants.

I would recommend going to the Berawa Brunch Club, as it overlooks the neighbouring horse riding school, so you can watch the horses while you eat.

Address: in Berawa Banjar Pelambingan, Perumahan Canggu Asri, Jl. Karang Suwung, Berawa, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 and Pererenan Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.110, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

20. Canteen Cafe

Canteen is a small cafe with a very central location in Canggu. It’s not very touristy and is usually favoured by Bali residents and surfers. Make sure not to confuse it with Warung Canteen in Berawa, which is very different.

The decor and vibe is very surfer and skater oriented and it’s generally a cool place to hang out. I usually take my laptop and have breakfast while I get some work done for a few hours. The smoothie bowls are very good, and I also like their coffee options.

Canteen Cafe is a go-to for a lowkey Bali-style breakfast on a lazy morning.

21. Lusa by Suka

For me, Lusa by Suka is a go-to for breakfast with friends, and it’s just as good for brunch or even dinner. The restaurant is located in Berawa and is built in a cool industrial style with plenty of plants, creating an ideal Canggu breakfast location.

They have IDR 55,000 breakfast offers, so Lusa is affordable, plus their food is very high quality. This spot is always busy with both tourists and digital nomads, and I’d especially recommend it for brunch. They also do cocktails, so you can turn it into a boozy brunch if you’re up for it.

Their classic waffles and mango smoothie bowl are a favourite, and so are the breakfast tacos. They serve a good mix of breakfast and brunch dishes, with both affordable and slightly pricier options on the menu.

22. Motion Cafe

Motion Cafe specialises in healthy food and nutritious breakfast options. People in Canggu love to work out and eat healthily, so this place is always busy.

They’ve got an impressive selection of pastries, protein shakes, breads and bowls, all with nutrients and macros in mind. They have paleo, gluten-free and vegan options, so no one is missing out here.

It’s hard to find actual, healthy restaurant food in Bali, and if staying fit and energised is your priority right now, you’ll love this place.

23. KYND Community

KYND Community has a very popular restaurant in Seminyak, and their Canggu outlet is just as busy. This is the place to go for aestethic breakfast or brunch dishes, and you’ll love their excentric decor and style. If you’re looking for an aestetic place to have breakfast or brunch in Canggu, this is the one.

Their menu is all-vegan, and the food is so good that you can even take your non-vegan friends here – they will love it.

I love to go to KYND for brunch with friends, and I always order the pancakes or the avocado toast, both of which are absolutely delicious.

24. Doppio

Doppio is another cute cafe in the heart of Canggu, and great for breakfast, brunch or getting some work done. It doesn’t get too many tourists and a lot of our friends who live here in Bali longterm love it.

Prices are very reasonable and the food is very pretty and of course delicious. The decor in the cafe is pineapple themed and you can get all sorts of dishes like pancakes, eggs, smoothie bowls, chia pudding and plenty of vegan options.

If you’re looking for an aesthetic breakfast place in Canggu that isn’t too expensive, you’ll love Doppio.

25. Revolver

Revolver Cafe has existed in Bali since 2012, and many expats and long-term Bali residents come here for coffee and breakfast. You can sit outside and people-watch at one of Canggu’s busiest turns, which leads right to the Shortcut. Or you can be a bit more comfortable and have breakfast inside in their pretty cafe.

The coffee is definitely the star here, and Revolver has its own roastery, even selling coffee wholesale. If you’re hoping to have some of the best coffee on the island, definitely head here.

The food isn’t too bad either, and you can quickly turn your breakfast in Canggu into a boozy brunch with their canned cocktails. You can order anything from a smoothie bowl to a breakfast burrito and croissant eggs benedict.

Revolver is all about comfort food and is highly recommended as a hangover cure.

26. Honey,

Head to Pererenan to have breakfast or brunch at Honey, a slightly lesser-known cafe and restaurant. They ask you not to use your laptop between 10 Am and 2 PM here, which means everyone is more in the moment and it’s a great place to come hang out with friends and enjoy a meal together.

The food is really good and the staff is super friendly, so I’d definitely recommend coming to Honey, (they put the comma in their name on purpose, it’s not a typo) for breakfast.

To be honest, I mostly come here for the peach and ricotta toast, which is incredibly good and I haven’t found anything like it in Bali.

27. Matcha Cafe

Matcha Cafe is a small place in Berawa, and I come here all the time for breakfast or to work for a few hours. As the name suggests, the cafe is matcha-themed, so you’ll find plenty of drinks and dishes that include the green powder.

Don’t worry if matcha is not your thing – there are also plenty of options available without.

You can usually get pretty good breakfast deals here, and prices are generally reasonable, so it’s a great spot for brunch with friends or even just for grabbing a coffee before heading down to the beach.

If you’re travelling on a budget and want to have a simple, but delicious Western breakfast, I would highly recommend Warung Jaba. They’re a local restaurant that offers delicious Indonesian cuisine, but also has a good selection of basic breakfast dishes like toasties, french toast and fruit bowls.

They’re a family-owned restaurant and offer fresh juices and cold coconuts, making them a great choice for backpackers looking for a deal.

This might not be the most Instagrammable breakfast spot in Canggu, but it’s delicious and won’t break the bank.

29. ZIN Cafe

Zin has a bit of everything. They’re a restaurant, breakfast and brunch place, coworking and event space, spa, resort and fitness club. With people from so many different in-house businesses coming here to eat, you can trust that the food is extremely good.

Located very close to the beach in Canggu, this is a great spot for breakfast after surfing or if you just got back from an early morning beach walk.

They have plenty of healthy and not-so-healthy food options, including smoothie bowls, pancakes, omelettes and anything you could possibly want for breakfast. ZIN often hosts events where you can meet and connect with like-minded people in Bali, so I’ve come here a few times for that, or I just get some work done in their coworking area.

30. Sensorium

If you’ve been craving something special for breakfast, you need to eat at Sensorium. They have Australian – Asian fusion dishes on their menu, and the food is so good that this has quickly become one of the most sought-after restaurants in Canggu.

Breakfast is always packed, so arrive early to snag a table, since they do not allow reservations. If there isn’t a table available when you arrive, you’ll be placed on the waiting list and can leave again until your spot is ready.

I would recommend Sensorium for a special occasion breakfast or brunch, or if you’ve been looking for something new to try, and all of Canggu’s cafes have kind of started blending together in your mind.

Sensorium is definitely different.

31. Cafe Vida Organic

Cafe Vida specialises in healthy, organic food, including gluten-free and vegan options. This is perfect if you’ve been looking for the full-on, holistic, biohacking, superfood, Bali experience.

They only use ingredients from their own organic farm in Bedugul, so you can be sure the food is not only delicious but also good for you. Their grains are non-GMO, everything is halal, and they have a completely separate gluten-free kitchen, so Cafe Vida is celiac-friendly. Plus, they do not use packaged foods, msg or microwaves in their restaurant.

Find the healthiest breakfast in Canggu and order their shakshuka, sweet potato brioche french toast or any of their other delicious dishes.

32. Machinery Coffee & Eatery

Machinery Cafe used to be located right on Batu Bolong, but they’ve now moved to Pererenan and turned their old venue into a sub-brand called Little Engine. While I’d also recommend checking that one out, I still prefer Machinery and their brunch menu.

The new restaurant is much larger and they’ve definitely established themselves as a child-friendly place with their indoor playground.

They often run breakfast and brunch deals, including their get-a-free breakfast dish when you order a drink offer, which I love. Portions aren’t huge, but the prices are great, so there’s no excuse not to go.

33. Nyom Nyom

Nyom Nyom is a go-to for breakfast in Canggu for me and I used to live very close by, so I’ve been here plenty of times. They have a fantastic breakfast deal for just 60k including a drink if you arrive before 11 AM, and generally prices are very reasonable.

Their upstairs terrace is great for getting some work done or just for sitting and chatting with friends for a while.

The food is decent, but the portions can be a bit hit or miss in my opinion, especially when it comes to the toasts. But, the great prices make it a top recommendation for a low-cost but high quality breakfast in Canggu.

34. Amolas Cafe

I used to work right next to Amolas Cafe, so I went here a lot to meet friends for coffee or grab a quick breakfast. It’s located in Kayu Tulang, a side street of Batu Bolong that doesn’t have a lot of restaurants, so it’s sometimes overlooked.

They have a nice airconditioned area, and also plenty of outdoor seating in their garden, which now has a roof, so you won’t have to worry about the sun or rain. They also have a pool, which no one really uses, but you could go for a swim after breakfast if you wanted to. They also provide towels.

The food is fantastic, and prices are reasonable, so I would highly recommend coming here for breakfast.

35. Boheme Canggu

Located very close to the beach in Pererenan, Boheme Canggu is a breakfast place and restaurant inside the Shore Amora Hotel. They also have a small coworking space called Nomad Space, which is actually very good considering it’s free.

Boheme has a large pool and sunloungers, so you can spend the entire day here if you need a more affordable alternative to a beach club in Canggu.

They run quite a lot of events and workshops throughout the month, but I usually just come here to get breakfast since the portions are generous and the venue is very pretty.

They let you build your own breakfast spread, so it’s very customisable and, of course, delicious.

36. Tiga

Tiga is a large restaurant in central Canggu with a huge menu selection of breakfast and brunch dishes. They have a nice combination of indoor and outdoor seating, and you can almost always find a table, even for larger groups.

They have a great food buffet selection for brunch, but also plenty of classic breakfast options, including great smoothies, pastries, eggs and much more.

Tiga is one of my favourite spots to get some work done or have a coffee. You can walk down to the beach afterwards or explore Canggu a little bit.

37. Padi Club

Padi Club is one of Canggu’s best day clubs and is surrounded by beautiful ricefields and peaceful nature. Just for the drive alone, it’s worth a visit, and their IDR 40,000 breakfast deal makes it even better.

They have a large pool, day beds and their restaurant of course, which is open for breakfast, brunch and all the way until dinner.

The portions can be a bit on the smaller side, but for the price, it’s absolutely reasonable. If you’re looking for a peaceful place away from the busy streets of Canggu, this is a top recommendation, especially if the rice fields are currently lush and green.

38. Two Face

Two Face is a newer breakfast and brunch place in a busy part of Canggu. In the evening, for dinner, the space becomes Muda by Suka, but in the mornings, you can come here for delicious coffee and fresh pastries.

They also do IDR 60,000 breakfast specials, so you won’t have to break the bank to have breakfast here. Plus, the coffee is very good.

The food here is straightforward and delicious, so you can’t go wrong. Plus, the restaurant is actually quite pretty and very “Bali”, so if you’re looking for a cute place to get breakfast, you’ll love Two Face.
