Why you can trust this list of the best vegan restaurants in Canggu, Bali

Hi, I’m Victoria, and I’m your go-to source for Bali and Indonesia travel information.

I’ve lived on this beautiful island for several years now and visited plenty of times before that, both as a tourist and backpacker. I know how to save money and when to splurge on things, so I’ll introduce you to the best luxury getaways for a special occasion but also the cheapest airport pickups and fun group tours you can join if you want to make friends.

I’ve been a vegetarian for 10+ years and vegan for two of those years. After living in Canggu for quite some time now (and loving it), I’ve tried my fair share of vegan restaurants and can tell you exactly which ones are worth it and which ones to skip.

I’ve been to every single one of the restaurants on this list and also got the opinions of some of my vegan friends living in Canggu for some different perspectives. Since I live in Canggu permanently and am not just visiting on vacation, I’ll be the first to know if a place closes down or if a new one opens up.

Best vegan restaurants in Canggu

Here are are best all-vegan restaurants in and around Canggu in Bali including options for Indonesian food, Italian cuisine, healthy dishes, and much more.

1. Kasto

Kasto is a one-of-a-kind vegan restaurant in Canggu, and probably one of my all-time favourites. It’s a vegan Italian place, and almost all of their ingredients are home-made including the pasta, pizza dough, and vegan sausages.

While most vegan restaurants offer a mix of dishes, Kasto focuses on Italian food, which makes it feel like a restaurant first and vegan second. For me, it’s refreshing to eat at a place that doesn’t make being vegan their entire identity. You probably wouldn’t even notice that this is a vegan restaurant if you didn’t know before.

They also have a great happy hour for cocktails, and their vegan desserts are highly recommended.

2. I Am Vegan Babe

I Am Vegan Babe is one of Canggu’s most popular and established vegan restaurants and a go-to breakfast spot if you’re looking for plant-based options. Their selection of dishes is very large, ranging from burgers to pasta and lots of Mexican food. The breakfast dishes include waffles, smoothie bowls, pancakes and much more.

The restaurant also has a decent selection of baked goods like cakes, cinnamon rolls, and pastries.

The food was always fantastic in my opinion, and what makes this one of my favourite vegan restaurants in Canggu is definitely their large selection of dishes. The Hawaiian Burger is my go-to order for lunch, and the waffles are highly recommended for breakfast.

Note that guests are asked to only use their laptops in designated areas, so make sure to watch out for that if you’re hoping to get some work done here.

Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.49, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

3. Manggis in Canggu

Manggis is located in Berawa, in a popular area with lots of restaurants. Their menu includes a variety of dishes from all around the world, including different Asian cuisines, Italian food, Indonesian specialities, and Middle Eastern dishes. They focus on Asian fusion, but I’m always surprised by how many different types of food they manage to cover.

Manggis is also one of the few places in Canggu with raw vegan dishes and with a vegan nasi campur (mixed rice) selection.

Prices are reasonable, and we always come to Manggis for vegan comfort food like döner, ramen or goulash.

Address: Jl. Pemelisan Agung No.7, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361
Open for: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Cuisine: Asian fusion

4. Kynd Community Canggu

Kynd Community has two different outlets in Bali; one in the heart of Canggu, just a few minutes from the beach, and another in the Petitenget area of Seminyak. Their venues and food are always very instagrammable, and if you’ve been looking for aesthetic smoothie bowls and dishes, this is the place to go.

They also sell cookbooks and a vegan online course and used to operate another vegan non-profit cafe called Give in Canggu, which has unfortunately closed down.

Many people go to Kynd for breakfast, but their lunch and dinner menu is also pretty impressive, with dishes such as ramen, curry, pho or a burrito.

Address: Jl. Nelayan No.31, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

5. Secret Spot

Secret Spot is a staple vegan restaurant in Canggu and a cool place to spend some time. They have a location in Canggu, around the corner from Batu Bolong, and one in Berawa, so you can choose which one is closer to you.

Personally, I prefer the Canggu one to get some work done, while the Berawa location is a bit more modern and cosy. The Secret Spot in Canggu even has a ping pong table, which is always fun.

Their food selection is varied with options from all over the world, including Italian, Japanese, and plenty of delicious breakfast options. I would definitely recommend coming here for breakfast if you can.

Address: Canggu: Jl. Tanah Barak No.7, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 Berawa: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.44, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

6. The Sloth

The Sloth is one of my favourite vegan places to order from on Grab or Gojek in Bali. What makes this place special is its DIY salad bar, where you can create your own bowl or wrap. They also have seitan, which is somewhat rare in Canggu, and other specialities such as a vegan fried egg, vegan tuna, and vegan bacon, which you won’t find in most vegan restaurants.

The all-day breakfast menu is also recommended, and what I appreciate about The Sloth is that they offer both healthy as well as “fast food” dishes, so there is something for everyone.

While the restaurant itself isn’t my favourite when it comes to seating, the selection is incredible, and the food is definitely delicious. You can also stay at The Sloth in their new studio rooms, so you can eat there every single day if you feel like it.

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No.90A, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

The most comfortable way to get around Bali is with a private driver. Read our complete guide or book instantly at the lowest prices with no need to haggle.

7. Veganlicious

Veganlicious is a small restaurant chain focusing on vegan smoothie bowls and juices. They have outlets in the Berawa area of Canggu, Kuta, Ubud and Seminyak, so you can try their delicious dishes no matter where you’re staying.

Veganlicious is open until late, but we definitely recommend coming here in the morning for breakfast.

What I love most about this place is that they’re very affordable, which can be tricky to find when it comes to vegan restaurants in Canggu. The restaurant itself is very small, and not the most aesthetic inside, but the quality of the food definitely makes up for it.

Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Open for: breakfast (all day)

8. Burgrgreens

Burgrgreens is a large restaurant in the centre of Canggu, right next to Luigi’s Hot Pizza. This all-vegan place doesn’t only have burgers though. They’re actually an Indonesian “fast food” chain with locations all over Jakarta and some in Tangerang.

The menu includes Indonesian dishes like vegan rendang, nasi campur, mie goreng, and much more. You can also have a vegan breakfast here and try international dishes such as fish and chips or lasagna.

They also offer healthy all-vegan meal plans if you’re staying in Canggu for longer.

For me, Burgrgreens is more of a fast food restaurant, and the food definitely hits the spot. I personally don’t love their vegan cheese, but everyone is different, so try it and make up your own mind.

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No.1, Banjar, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

If you’re trying to eat healthy as a vegan, these restaurants are the perfect choice.

9. The Cure Health Kitchen

The Cure perfectly combines healthy food with vegan junk food, satisfying all those cravings you’ve been having. This is one of the few vegan restaurants in Canggu that offers Beyond Meat, which I really enjoy.

Their burgers are definitely a favourite for me, but personally the smoothie bowls are not the best, and I wouldn’t prioritise ordering one here. You can also order juice cleanse packages here if that’s something you’re interested in.

Come to The Cure for plant-based dishes, including gluten-free, keto and sugar-free options.

Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.40, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Open for: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Cuisine: International, healthy

10. Healthy Ubud

As the name suggests, Healthy Ubud originally opened in Ubud, but they also have a venue in Canggu. They’re known for their healthy bowls and fresh juice selection, so definitely come here for a health boost.

They have their own organic farm, so you know that the ingredients are the best. Prices are pretty reasonable, and we usually come here for a quick lunch.

Their vegan sushi is also recommended, and some of the best I’ve found in Canggu.

11. Alkaline Vegan Restaurant

Alkaline is all about eating healthy, sourcing local ingredients, and being eco-friendly. They use alkaline water to prepare their food and grow their own vegetables onsite. All other produce comes from less than 50 kilometres away.

In addition to serving vegan food, they also try to eliminate sugar and gluten, and many dishes are even raw vegan.

If eating healthy and clean is your priority, you will love Alkaline. You can also shop for natural health supplements here if that is something you want to try.

Personally, some of the food is a tiny bit too healthy for me, and I prefer vegan food that is not just focused on being good for you. But that is different for everyone, so make up your own mind.

I would definitely recommend the smoothie bowls and juices here; they are incredible.

Plus, you can stay at the Serenity Eco Guesthouse and Yoga, which is part of the restaurant.

12. Dua Hati

Dua Hati is a unique vegan restaurant in Canggu, since they serve a fantastic selection of all-vegan Indonesian specialties, giving those who follow a plant-based diet the chance to try traditional food. They even have a nasi campur buffet, where you can select your own mixed rice plate.

In addition to Indonesian food, Dua Hati also has international options such as pasta, sandwiches, and more. They’re well-known for their seitan, which can be somewhat hard to find in Canggu.

The restaurant is pretty small, but it’s also a good spot for coworking, especially in the separate air-conditioned area. Also recommended: their take-home sambals, which you can buy in glass jars.

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No.12D, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

13. Warung Pande Vegan

Warung Pande Vegan is located in Babakan, just a five-minute drive from central Canggu. This is a smaller place that is very popular on grab and gojek and since we used to live around the corner, we ordered from here all the time.

They also offer a vegan nasi campur buffet with a small but delicious selection of dishes.

You can try all sorts of traditional Indonesian dishes here like bakso, satay, tofu and tempeh balado, gado gado and Balinese sausages. Prices are very affordable, and this is probably the closest you will find to a vegan warung in Canggu.

We love Warung Pande Vegan for a quick lunch or to satisfy those satay cravings.

Address: Jl. Raya Babakan Canggu No.49, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351
Open for: lunch and dinner

14. Oma Jamu Vegan

Oma means grandma in English, and jamu is a traditional Indonesian health drink based on ginger and tumeric. Together, it’s the name of one of Canggu’s most beloved vegan restaurants, featuring home-cooked plant-based food.

Their nasi campur selection is divine, and you can tell that the staff puts a lot of love into each one of the dishes. Prices are reasonable, although a tiny bit more expensive than regular warungs around town.

I would recommend coming here for lunch and not dinner to make sure you’re getting a great selection of fresh dishes. In the evenings, there is usually much less to choose from.

Best restaurants in Canggu with vegan options

The following restaurants may not be all-vegan, but they have a great selection of vegan dishes to choose from, so you won’t be limiting yourself.

15. Shady Shack

Shady Shack is a must-try when it comes to vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Canggu. Most of their dishes are vegan, and the menu includes fantastic breakfast options, burgers, lasagna, gnocchi, and much more.

Their delicious bowls make for a great healthy lunch, and prices are very reasonable.

Shady Shack is also a nicce spot for dinner, especially if you have a group of people where some are vegan and some are not.

Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.53, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
Open for: breakfast, lunch and dinner

16. Roots in Bali

Roots is still a relatively new vegetarian restaurant in Bali, but it quickly gained popularity and is consistently receiving fantastic reviews. Located in Pererenan, just a quick drive from central Canggu, this has quickly become my go-to spot for an all-veggie lunch.

They use seasonal, local ingredients and provide a good selection of vegan options. My favourites here are the customisable build-your-own bowls, which are absolutely delicious.

One thing to note is that the plant-based options are mostly on the lunch and dinner menu, while breakfast is a bit more limited if you’re a vegan.

Address: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.121, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia

17. Gustav Grün

Gustav Grün is a German chain of healthy vegetarian and vegan restaurants, which opened their first location in Indonesia right on Batu Bolong Street in Canggu. I always get their build-your-own bowls and wraps, which are pretty affordable and absolutely delicious. In my opinion, they have the best hummus in Canggu.

I’m from Germany and have eaten at Gustav Grün quite a lot in Germany, so I love that one of my favourite vegetarian places from home is now in Bali.

Their salad bar is kind of like Subway, but much better quality and even more delicious. They also have a DIY all-day breakfast menu, which you need to try.

Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.32, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia

18. Word Hummus Bar Vegetarian Cafe

Word Hummus Bar is located towards the top of Canggu’s busy Batu Bolong Street, and it’s a staple for me on Gofood. They often do late night or early morning discounts, and generally prices are pretty decent.

The restaurant itself is a nice place to sit and get some work done, and it’s usually pretty quiet.

The food served here is healthy with a Russian influence as well as plenty of hummus and falafel dishes, giving it a Middle Eastern twist. There are quite a few vegan options to choose from, and Word Hummus is often open 24 hours per day, so it’s a great place too get a latenight snack.

19. Nyom Nyom Coffee

I’ve been coming to Nyom Nyom for several years now, and it never disappoints. They have one of the best breakfast deals in Canggu, where you can get breakfast and a coffee for a great price in the morning.

They have a completely separate vegan and vegetarian menu, which is highly appreciated at cafes in Canggu. We often come here if we have a mixed group of vegetarians and vegans, so everyone has plenty of options to choose from.

Nyom Nyom’s rooftop terrace is also a great spot for some coworking if you want to be productive. I personally love Nyom Nyom for breakfast or lunch, but I think there are better dinner spots for vegans in Canggu, so keep that in mind.

20. Samadi Restaurant

Samadi is a vegan and vegetarian restaurant located at the Samadi Yoga and Wellness Centre in Canggu. If yu’re interested in holistic eating and plant-based products definitely also check out the Samadi Supermarket next door and the small Sunday markets held here every week.

The menu includes a mix of dishes, some of which are vegan and some only vegetarian. They serve burgers, Indian cuisine, and Asian food from different countries. What I find a little bit confusing is that they have a complete seafood menu as well, considering they claim to be 100% vegetarian. Luckily, there are still plenty of options for vegans on the menu, and the quality of the food is fantastic.

We love their smoothies and fresh juices, and a highlight is the Samadi Velato ice cream shop next door, which serves delicious vegan gelato and cookies.

21. Sa’Mesa

Sa’Mesa is more than just a restaurant, dinner here is an experience you won’t forget any time soon. They serve 18+ dishes throughout the night as part of their Italian family-style dinner where strangers become friends. There is free flow limoncello and plenty of dancing on tables by the end of the night.

While the dinner is far from vegan, Sa’Mesa is actually very accommodating when it comes to booth vegans and vegetarians. If you let them know about your dietary requirements when you book your spot, they’ll provide vegan replacement dishes just for you.

We love Sa’Mesa because they go above and beyond for vegans, and you won’t feel like you’re missing out.

22. Red Gunpowder

If you’re looking for a plant-based romantic date night in Canggu, you need to try Red Gunpowder. This Indian restaurant is located in Pererenan, just a quick drive from central Canggu. You can order every single one of their claypot curries as a vegan option, which is much appreciated. They also have vegan sharing plates, and while we’re still waiting for vegan desserts to be on the menu, overall, Red Gunpowder is a great experience for someone who follows a plant-based diet.

Is Canggu in Bali vegan-friendly?

Canggu is a hotspot for healthy eating, vegan restaurants and all types of cuisines from all around the world. As you can tell from this long lst of vegan restaurants in the area, it’s not difficult to find plant-based options in this part of Bali.

Actually, most restaurants have at least one vegan option on their menu, and many are very flexible when it comes to customising dishes.

Traditional Indonesian dishes can usually be modified quite easily to be vegan, especially nasi goreng and mie goreng. Nasi campur, which is a buffet of mixed rice dishes commonly found in small local restaurants, often has quite a few vegan options, including tofu and tempeh dishes, vegetable stir fries, and much more.

The staff will be able to help you pick out vegan foods.

If you’re a vegan planning your Bali trip, heading to Canggu is definitely highly recommended.

How much are vegan restaurants in Canggu?

How expensive a restaurant is can be very subjective, so we came up with a very basic rating system for the approximate prices of the places on this list. Here is a rough guide.

$ – many options of main dishes under IDR 75,000 or considerable discounts and promos
$$ – most main dishes cost between IDR 80,000 and IDR 120,000
$$$ – most main dishes cost at least IDR 120,000 or more

Don’t forget that most restaurants in Canggu exclude tax and service in the prices on their menus, so you’ll have to factor in an additional 10% to 20% unless stated otherwise.

Generally, you can expect to spend at least IDR 400,000 to IDR 500,000 for a meal for two people at a mid-priced restaurant in Canggu, including one drink each.
