Nothing is better than ice cream on a hot day in Canggu, Bali. We tried the best ice cream and gelato places around town and now have a complete list for you to dive into.
Ice cream shops aren’t actually as common in Canggu and all of Bali as you might be used to from Europe, but they often stay open until late at night, which we love.
Real gelato can often be pretty expensive, especially when you get traditionally made gelato. Luckily, we can tell you which ones are worth the money and we even have recommendations for affordable ice cream in Canggu.

I’ve been living in Canggu for almost three years now, so I’ve had plenty of time to try the best ice cream places around town – there really aren’t that many.
That means that, unlike someone who only came to Bali for a few weeks, I can keep this blog post up-to-date and will be the first to know if an ice cream shop closes or a new one opens. I drive past them every single day, so there’s no way I’ll miss it.

Best ice cream and gelato in Canggu
Get the best ice cream and gelato in the Canggu area at one of our favourite spots in town.
1. Ettore Gelato
Ettore is the sort of ice cream place that has a line out the door on most days of the week. Located in central Pererenan, they only have one outlet so far, but judging from their popularity, we’re hoping to see them in more places across Bali soon.
This shop makes traditional Italian gelato, which is technically not the same thing as ice cream, and Ettore, the man behind the shop is a professional gelato chef and sommelier from Milan, so you know it’s incredible. Ettore Gelato has perfected the science of ice cream over the years and every recipe and flavour they produce is still created by Ettore himself from scratch.
They claim to make the most authentic Italian gelato, and we think they might be right.
Address: Jl. Pantai Pererenan No.88, Canggu, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Pererenan, Bali 80361

The Best Way To Experience Bali
Group tours are an incredibly underrated way to travel and you’ll get to experience Bali with new friends without any of the stress of planning. Compare the best tours here or check out my all-time favourite below.
2. Gaya Gelato
Gaya Gelato is an ice cream franchise that was founded in Bali in 2009 but has since expanded to Italy and Portugal as well. They have eight shops across Bali, including one in central Canggu, Pererenan and Berawa, so they’ve got quite a few to choose from.
I like their Canggu shop the most, which is located right by La Brisa beach club at Echo Beach, and we often go here to get ice cream before watching the sunset at the beach. Just know that you can’t get a grab or gojek down here, so be prepared to walk up to road if you’re not driving yourself.
Their gelato is incredible, and they even sell larger tubs and pastries, which I can highly recommend.
Plus, they follow a lot of environmentally-friendly principles, including using seasonal produce, reducing energy usage and growing ingredients sustainably.

Best eSIM & Physical SIM For Bali
Did you know you can get the best SIM card for tourists delivered to your hotel in Bali at no extra charge? Or get an eSIM, so you’ll be connected from day one.
3. Dop Ice Cream
Dop Ice Cream is located in a busy part of Canggu where you’ll also find plenty of breakfast and brunch places. They’re definitely a bit pricier, but the ice cream is very good and they have flavours like blueberry cheesecake, avocado chocolate chip or cold brew coffee.
They sometimes even run deals where you get higher discounts on ice cream the hotter the temperature is outside.
Plus, they sometimes have a DJ on weekends and stay open until midnight, so it’s a great late-night spot to try before going to one of Canggu’s best nightclubs.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan No.73, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351

4. Nalu Ice Cream
Nalu is a newer addition to Canggu’s ice cream scene and has been around since mid-2023 when they rebranded from smoothie bowls to ice cream and other desserts.
Located right on Batu Bolong, this is a very popular place, and it used to be a go-to for me when I worked around the corner from the shop.
My only complaint is that they’re a bit pricey, but the ice cream is honestly worth it. I think their fruit flavours like raspberry or mango are especially good and I like that they’re so centrally located, so it’s easy to stop by if you’re in the area.
You can also see some of the ice cream making process in their show kitchen, which is fun.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.50, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

The Best Private Drivers In Bali
The most comfortable way to get around Bali is with a private driver. Read our complete guide or book instantly at the lowest prices with no need to haggle.
5. Al Bacio Gelato Canggu
Al Bacio is another one of my favourite gelato spots in Canggu, and it’s usually quieter than Gaya or Ettore, so you don’t have to worry about long lines.
They also have great vegan options, which I love and which can be hard to find, especially when it comes to gelato. You can find them in the heart of Canggu, close to lots of breakfast places and great restaurants.
I have to say that their portions are definitely on the smaller side though, compared to some others on this list, but their ice cream is very good, so I can’t complain.
Note that they moved their shop a while ago and the location on Google Maps is slightly inaccurate. It’s located right around the corner, you can’t miss it.

Best affordable ice cream in Canggu
If you’re not looking for the most authentic Italian gelato in Canggu but rather want to grab ice cream on a budget, you’ll love this affordable option.
6. Mixue
Mixue is a Chinese ice cream and tea franchise that can now be found all over Bali and Indonesia. Canggu got its very own Mixue a while ago, which is located on Raya Canggu, the large main road. Then there is another one at the edge of Pererenan, which I don’t think can be considered Canggu anymore.
The shop is very small, and they sell incredibly affordable ice cream and different teas for as little as IDR 8,000. The ice cream is mostly soft-serve vanilla with different toppings, and it’s actually quite good.
If you’re trying to save money, Mixue will become your new dessert addiction in Canggu.
Address: Jl. Raya Canggu No.668, Tibubeneng, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361

Best popsicles & ice lollies in Bali
Every minimart in Bali has a chest freezer full of different popsicles, Magnum and Wall’s, but have you heard of Bali’s artisanal popsicle brands? Here are a few you should try.
Leoni Gelato
Leonis has become a very popular ice cream brand in Bali, and you can now find them in many different restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets across Canggu.
They’re known for their ice cream on a stick but also sell little cups. Their brand is all about fresh ingredients and low-fat, low-sugar, so their ice cream is healthier than other options.
Their gelato has been produced in Bali since 2014 when the brand was founded and I love their many flavours. Every single one is incredibly good.

Jolly
Jolly is a plant-based popsicle/ice lolly brand from Bali that is now expanding all over Indonesia. They produce their ice cream from real fruit with low sugar and only the best ingredients. With no preservatives, artificial colourings or flavourings, they’re the perfect healthy treat.
You can find them in plenty of restaurants and shops around Canggu, and I tried their ice cream at La Brisa for the first time, one of my favourite beach clubs.
