Why I’m the perfect person to help you find ideas for your birthday in Bali
Planning a birthday can be stressful as it is, but if you’re in a new place where you might not know a lot of people or some safe birthday options that are guaranteed to be fun, it’s even more of a challenge. Or, maybe you’ve been in Bali for a while and are getting bored of everyone just celebrating their birthday at a beach club and want something more special.
Luckily, you’ve got me, your Bali expert, who has been to a birthday party or two on the island and celebrated her own in a ton of different ways here. I’ve lived in Bali on and off for several years, so I’ve got a lot more insight than a typical tourist. I know all the spots that are actually fun and perfect for a birthday party.
Since not everyone is the same and we all look for different experiences for our birthday, I’ve collected quite a few ideas for you in this Bali list. They’re organised into four categories, including nightlife, relaxing, action-packed and touristy things to do for your birthday in Bali. I promise there will be something on this list that is perfect for your next birthday in Bali.

Some of the best places to shop for those include the Bali Party Shop, Party Things Bali, and Party Accessories Store Bali. You can also check the Galleria Mall, Kuta Beachwalk or online using Shoppee or Tokopedia, although you might need an Indonesian bank account (or a friend with one).

Nightlife and things to do with friends for your birthday in Bali
When people think of celebrating their birthday, they usually mean dinners, drinks and maybe a party. Bali is the perfect place for any of these birthday ideas, especially if you’ve got a group of friends to share them with. Here are our top picks for a fun and boozy birthday in Bali with your loved ones.
1. Try experience dining at Sa’mesa (with free-flow limoncello) – Our choice
Sa’mesa is our top choice for a birthday celebration in Bali. This Italian restaurant is unlike any other and the perfect venue for a fun and unusual birthday in Bali. Pick between their locations in Seminyak and Canggu and let the night surprise you. We don’t want to spoil too much, but let’s just say there is a lot of limoncello, a lot of food, and people always end up dancing on the tables by the end of the night. The meal is served family-style and consists of as many as 20 courses throughout the night. Plus, the restaurant motto is “Come as strangers, leave as friends”, so you’ll get to make a ton of new connections and have a truly special night. Book your spot here.

2. Have a group birthday dinner – our restaurant picks
A birthday dinner with a group of friends is the classic way most people like to celebrate their birthday. But not every restaurant is a good choice for a lively crowd of people. Here are my top picks for group birthday dinner venues in Canggu and what you can expect. If you’re looking for a more intimate setting, check out these romantic restaurants in Canggu, or these plant-based ones if you’re looking for something with vegan and vegetarian options.
- Lola’s for delicious Mexican food, margaritas and great vibes
- Mason for a more upscale setting and great atmosphere
- La Baracca for Italian food in a cosy and intimate setting
- Penny Lane for an instagrammable venue with great cocktails
- Beach Garden for affordable food and drinks and occasional live music

3. Celebrate your birthday in a beautiful private villa
Bali has an incredible selection of private villas for rent, and most aren’t even that expensive. Especially Uluwatu, or the more remote parts of Bali like West Bali, have stunning rental properties that are perfect for a birthday celebration. You can either invite a small circle of friends and family or make it a full-blown house party.
Just make sure to notify the Banjar, which is the local neighbourhood police in Bali. They need to know about any larger events taking place and may even charge a small fee to provide security.
OUR CHOICE
Some of the best private villas I’ve stayed include the ones at Sumberkima Hill, Villa Mewah, Villa Ocean’s Height and Villa Mahkai.

4. Have fun at Shooters in Seminyak
Shooters in Seminyak, Bali, is the perfect place to celebrate your birthday. With a wide range of games and activities like minigolf, axe throwing, billiard, a shooting range, a basketball arcade, table football, jenga and boccia – there’s something for everyone. Not to mention they have great drinks at reasonable prices, which makes it the perfect spot for a large group celebration. So if you’re ever looking to celebrate your birthday in Bali, be sure to check out Shooters in Seminyak.
5. Rent a party bus
Renting a party bus in Bali for your birthday is a fun and unique way to celebrate with your friends. Party buses are available for rent in Bali and come with a variety of features, such as a sound system, disco lights, and a fully stocked bar. You can customize your route and itinerary, choosing which clubs, bars, or restaurants to visit throughout the night. The party bus also provides a driver, of course, so you can enjoy a night out without worrying about driving. There are a variety of operators to choose from, Bali Party Tour and Party Bus Happy Trackers being the two most popular ones.
The Best Private Drivers In Bali
The most comfortable way to get around Bali is with a private driver. Read our complete guide or book instantly at the lowest prices with no need to haggle.
6. Have a bonfire on the beach
Having a bonfire on the beach in Bali for your birthday is one of the best ideas if you don’t want to spend too much money but still want to have fun with a group of friends. Bali has a great selection of beaches where you can have a bonfire, just make sure to choose one that is a bit remote so you don’t disturb anyone. This location has a little beach cave and is my personal favourite. You can gather your friends and family, bring some food and drinks, and enjoy a cosy and relaxing evening by the fire. Watching the sunset over the ocean while sitting by the fire is a magical experience. Keep in mind that it’s important to follow the local regulations and to take all your trash with you when you leave.
7. Get a custom cake delivered
A custom birthday cake is a must-have for any birthday. Many of the local bakeries can create unique cakes decorated with almost any theme, topping or message that you want. When ordering, be sure to provide them with enough time to prepare the cake and provide accurate information about what exactly you are looking for to avoid misunderstandings. Cakes are usually priced between €12 and €25 depending on the size and decoration. You’ll get everything delivered to where you’re staying and won’t have to worry about picking anything up. I would recommend Hova Cake or Ratna Cake, but there are so many bakeries around Bali that you can’t really go wrong.

8. Order a grazing table for all your friends
If you’re hosting your birthday party in Bali at home, you’ll need to figure out ideas for the food. One way to make it special is to order a grazing table for your friends and family. Grazing tables are the perfect way to enjoy delicious local delicacies and create lasting memories with your loved ones.
Not only will you get to sample a variety of different dishes, but the table itself will be adorned with beautiful flowers and decorations. With grazing tables, you can also customize your order to include special items that the birthday person loves or traditional Balinese dishes. The whole setup will be instagrammable and, of course, delicious.
9. Try a paint-and-sip, sniff-and-sip, or bead-and-sip class
Experience an unforgettable birthday celebration in beautiful Bali with a paint-and-sip class. Or make it even more unusual and try bead-and-sip, where you make custom jewellery or sniff-and-sip, where you can make your own perfume. With the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will be guided through the creative process of how to produce your own masterpiece.
While you paint, you can enjoy delicious cocktails, wine and other drinks right from the in-house bar. Supplies such as canvas, brushes, paints, and other materials will be provided. The instructor can help you customize your artwork to make it truly special for the occasion.
The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, so come ready to paint and mingle with friends. It’s the perfect way to commemorate a memorable birthday in paradise.
OUR CHOICE
The Creative Art Bar in Seminyak has the best paint-and-sip classes on the island. They offer weekly events with different themes, drag or magic shows and even host private events for birthday parties upon request.

10. Enjoy an all-you-can-drink-and-eat BBQ at LXXY rooftop pool club
Note: LXXY is currently closed for renovations, but we’ll be the first to let you know when it reopens soon!
Kuta in Bali is known for its all-you-can-eat-and-drink BBQ events, which are one of the best birthday ideas for a big group of people, especially if you’re trying to stay on a budget. LXXY only costs around €9 per person, and you can enjoy free-flow drinks (Prost beer and spirit mixers) at their rooftop pool club for three hours. Their buffet is excellent and new dishes come out all night, including food like pizza, roast beef, sushi, and more. They also have a custom pasta bar and, of course, a large BBQ section. You can rent out their jacuzzi mezzanine lounge, which overlooks the main terrace for birthday events with up to 50 people. Read our complete review of LXXY here.

11. Have a boozy brunch
Travellers looking for a unique way to celebrate their birthdays should look no further than a boozy brunch in Bali. A boozy brunch is a fun and exciting way to bring friends together for an unforgettable birthday party experience. Enjoy the best of local or Western cuisine, as well as cocktails, beer, wine and other drinks. Have fun sharing plates, tasting new dishes, and enjoying time together in a relaxed atmosphere. With so many delicious options to choose from, it’s sure to be a memorable birthday celebration for everyone involved.
Best eSIM & Physical SIM For Bali
Did you know you can get the best SIM card for tourists delivered to your hotel in Bali at no extra charge? Or get an eSIM, so you’ll be connected from day one.
12. Dance the night away
Bali is the perfect place for a birthday celebration. One of the best ways to celebrate in style is by going out dancing or clubbing with friends. Bali has some of the most vibrant clubs and bars in Southeast Asia, so you’ll have no trouble finding something that suits your mood. You can dance the night away under the stars at a beach club or enjoy a luxurious evening at a more sophisticated venue. Many clubs have DJs and live bands that will make your night even more special with their music. Some of the best picks include La Brisa, La Favela, Sand Bar, Old Man’s, Morabito, Finn’s Beach Club and The Lawn.

13. Share your birthday with new friends
If you’re in Bali alone and need ideas on how to celebrate your birthday, I might have something for you. It can be difficult to meet friends as a solo traveller, which is why tools like Nomeo are so useful. This Bali-based meetup site lets you host your own events or join others. If your birthday is coming up and you’re looking to celebrate with a fun crowd, why not join a Nomeo meet-up or go to a few and then host your own for your birthday? It’s quite a common thing to do, and you’ll feel part of a community almost instantly.
If you want an even more unforgettable trip for your birthday, you should consider joining an organised group trip around Bali, which is perfect for a special occasion and making new friends.
Our recommendation: The 12- Day Bali One Life Adventures Tour

14. Rent a beer bike and cruise through Bali’s streets

Drinks are free-flow, and prices are reasonable, find out more here.
15. Rent a private boat
A party on a boat is always better than a party on land. Imagine sailing around the stunning coastline of Bali while surrounded by friends and delicious food. Add to the mix some island-inspired music, cocktails, and beautiful surroundings, and you have the recipe for an unforgettable celebration. This may not be the cheapest way to celebrate your birthday in Bali, but it’s definitely one of the most memorable.
16. Enjoy sunset cocktails at Sol Rooftop

Not only is karaoke fun and entertaining, it also helps break the ice and get everyone up and moving. Your birthday will be an unforgettable night filled with laughter, memories and great music. Ore Studios in Canggu is the best karaoke place in Bali by far, and there is always something going on here, so you’re guaranteed to have fun.
Please note that as of late May 2024, Ore is currently temporarily closed and will be relocating within Canggu. We’ll be the first to know when it reopens in the coming months.
18. Enjoy craft beer and good vibes at Black Sand’s beer garden

While you enjoy a selection of locally crafted Island Brewing beers, you can also take in the sunset view and enjoy a live DJ that plays most nights. During the day, Black Sand has a laidback atmosphere in their beer garden, but on weekends, the nights get wild, and you can even go dancing. 20. Splurge on some beauty treatments
Travellers in Bali can turn their birthday celebrations into a unique and special experience by treating themselves to one or more beauty treatments. There are a number of options available when it comes to pampering yourself, including getting your nails and lashes done or indulging in a facial. You can find many hair salons and spas all over the island, with experienced professionals offering a range of services. From basic manicures and pedicures to luxurious spa treatments, you can relax knowing that this day is all about you. Plus, Bali tends to be a very affordable place when it comes to beauty.

21. Plant your own reef
If you want to give back on your birthday in Bali, why not help the marine ecosystem by supporting a local coral restoration organisation? With the non-profit Livingseas, you can sponsor and even plant your own piece of reef in Padang Bai.
These baby corals come in varying sizes and price ranges, so you can find the perfect one for your special occasion. Prices start at just US $10 for a single coral, or US $30 for an entire reef star which comes with a bamboo tag that has your name on it. You’ll even get regular photo updates of your reef star after it’s been planted.
If you want to make the day even more special, head up north and join in on a coral planting day with the Livingseas Foundation. It’s an incredible experience I can personally recommend and suitable for both divers and snorkelers.

OUR TIP
Shopping in Bali is fun, but keep an eye out for fakes which can be hard to spot sometimes. They look very official but the clothing sold here is not genuine.

Hey Magda!
That sounds like such a fun trip. I think it depends what you’re looking for. During the day you could do a fun activity like rafting, cooking class, a bike tour or silver making. Then in the evening I would recommend Batubara or Nusantara for a nice dinner and some drinks. Hope that helps!
Hello, we are planning a birthday party next June for a 70th, we have 18 adults and 5 children. we are staying in Seminyak..what would you suggest that we could do? we like great food but need a place to accomodate all of us and the kids..
Hi!
Seminyak is a great area for a birthday dinner with so many restaurants to choose from. I would look into NOAA, which is one of my favourite restaurants right now and they’re great for families, but also fancy enough for a special occasion. And I’m pretty sure they have specials for larger groups. Hope that helps!
